1999 Academy of International Business Doctoral Consortium The Academy of International Business (AIB) offered a consortium for doctoral students this year. It took place in Charleston, South Carolina, and was organized by S. Tamer Cavusgil, Executive Director of MSU-CIBER. An emphasis was placed on issue-oriented research which transcends traditional functional boundaries. The candidates were nominated by faculty members, who wrote a letter stating the students interests and abilities. Preference was given to doctoral candidates who have finished the equivalent of doctoral examinations but who have not yet completed the bulk of their dissertation work. Only 20 participants were chosen. The speakers included four distinguished faculty members. Subramanian Rangan, Assistant Professor of Strategy and Management at INSEAD in France spoke on strategy and management. The topics of strategic management and organization in relation to globalization, competitive advantage and multinational corporations was addressed by Srilata Zaheer, Associate Professor of Strategic Management and Organization at the University of Minnesota. Gary Knight, Assistant Professor of Marketing and International Business at Florida State University addressed the topics of international marketing with emphasis on services and research. Anoop Madhok, Associate Professor of Management at the University of Utah addressed management policy. S. Tamer Cavusgil gave the final wrap-up. Copyright © 1999 Michigan State University. |
