DESCRIPTION:
As the international behavior of firms changes, so too must the theories used to describe, explain and predict that behavior change. This volume is conceived as an exploration of the evolving nature of internationalization in the context of shifting environmental forces in an effort to 1) highlight the nature of firms' changing behaviors, 2) explore the potential reasons for those changes, and 3) propose new perspectives from which a more contemporary theory of internationalization can be developed. The papers in this volume examine the internationalization behavior of a wide range of firms, from MNCs to SMEs, including firms from both developed and emerging economies. Consideration is given to the rapid internationalization of "born global" firms, to inward as well as outward internationalization and to the dynamic nature of internationalization today. The primary target reader is the scholar of international business who seeks a fresh perspective on established theories or is personally involved in research and theory development. Practitioners of international business should also find both food for thought and insight into their current situations.

Michigan State was one of five universities awarded the 2006 Senator Paul Simon Award for campus internationalization and profiled in a major report published by NAFSA: Association of International Educators. The report, titled "Internationalizing the Campus 2006: Profiles of Success at Colleges and Universities," highlighted selected units at Michigan State and singled out both globalEDGE and IBC for recognition. The Eli Broad College of Business received mention not only for the renewal of the CIBER grant and top-rated globalEDGE website, but also for the depth and breadth of the study abroad programming. In 2004-2005, 521 undergraduate and graduate students at the Broad School studied abroad—the most of any college at the University.
